Fine example of the standard pattern of Union Civil War officer frock coat identified to Capt. Washington Rawlings, Company F, 23rd Iowa Infantry.  Rawlings served from August 2, 1862 until November 12, 1863 and is credited with capturing the flag of the 61st Tennessee Infantry at the Battle of Big Black River, Mississippi (just prior to the Battle of Vicksburg).  Rawlings was wounded in battle May 17, 1863 but continued to serve until November of the same year.  This grouping is fresh from the family and accompanied by several nice smalls including images of him later in life, his tactics manual and even a four leaf clover he plucked from the field!  Museum condition overall.
